Casa A

   2022-2023
  Nuevo Majalca, Chihuahua, México

Country house for a couple, tucked in the wilderness near the road from Chihuahua city to the sierra mountains of Majalca, just 45 minutes away. The clients had a several acres-long plot of land which they wanted to develop into a destination vineyard, where they will eventually produce many wine barriques yearly and receive tourists and visitors for guided tours and caterings along the vineyards and its surrounding winery and infrastructure.

But first, they intended to build a small summer house for weekend getaways and carne asadas with friends and family, with the posibility of growing upwards in the future, so they needed that flexibility both in program and its construction.

                     PLANTA BAJA   -    FIRST FLOOR

A square horseshoe shape is drawn, with the middle of it being an outdoor, north-facing social space containing a fire and conversation pit. Opposing it, a jacuzzi/water mirror protudes from the ground floor. This outdoor area articulates the ground floor of the project, being the most social area with a breath of fresh air, with views to the vineyards while also being enclosed by the rest of the program. To the left lies an outdoor, although roofed grilling area and bar, as well as a huge natural wood dinner table. The opposing wing of the horseshoe is the indoor area of the project, with a kitchen, small living room and a bathroom.

+The bathroom

The inside bathroom is divided into two to allow two different users to use the toilet and the shower simultaneously. This spaces both open into an inner private garden which not only enhances the experience of the space but can also be opened to freshen the space, thanks to the aromatic selection of vegetation. in the case of the shower, opening the space up helps to ventilate the humidity of a hot shower away, as well as providing an enhanced showering experience by effectively showering outside in perfect privacy.

MEZZANINE

Inside, a staircase leads upward to a small wooden mezzanine, designed firstly as the “bedroom” for whenever the client wanted to “camp”. In a later expansion, this space could also work as a storage room. the edge of the mezzanine has a structure that allows for a net to be built which would work as hammock for kids and adults to play on. the easter side of the mezzanine has a protruding window sill and frame, designed for kids and adults alike to crouch and peek out from the window into the sunrise in the mountains and wineyards.

TERRAZA Y AZOTEA   -    TERRACE AND ROOFTOP

The rooftop is connected by a flight of stairs accesible from outside in the conversation pit area. After climbing it, a rooftop terrace greets you, full of endemic and xerophilous vegetation from the Chihuahua desert. the structure from the Ground Floor protrudes through the roof, along with its steel rods. Water and drainage instalation protrude as well -connected but disabled- from the existing ground floor instalations. All of this allow for a further floor to be built upon eventually. The column rods and instalation pipes are hidden by a one meter tall parapet
