Three Apartment Building blocks designed in Setagaya City, Tokyo, Japan.
The idea was to design an apartment building that could house luxury apartments. To maximize space, while also creating the sense of living in a house instead of a housing complex, a “tetris-like” distribution was developed, where each apartment had 90 square meters. Each apartment needed to have its own garden, which could extend up to a third of the total area. Two typologies were developed. Typology A were apartments which were distributed in two levels. This enhanced the spatial sensation, making them feel more like a house than an apartment. Typology B were apartments on a second or third level with a smaller area. These apartments were ideal for singles, while Typology A fitted more a family profile.

Although these apartments have their own private gardens, a common garden is located in the middle of the plot, promoting social interactions and enhancing the sense of community.
